Grand County Concert Series presents two faculty members from the College of Music at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Pianist David Korevaar is the Peter and Helen Weil Professor of Piano, and violinist Charles Wetherbee is Assistant Professor of Violin

Supporting Sponsors for the concert are Grand County Commissioners, Grand County TV18, Grand Foundation and McConnell Design & Printing.

“The concert series purchased a piano for concerts, such as this one, featuring a wonderful pianist,” said Judy Baxter, president of the concert series. “Now, we don’t have to rent and transport pianos from Denver to have the quality that’s important to our audience and performers.”

More than two years ago, the concert series purchased a used 9-foot Baldwin concert grand piano from Mesa State College. The model SD 10 Baldwin piano was built in 1943 in the United States. A similar, new Baldwin piano has a list price of $123,500. This piano was first used in concert by the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Many distinguished musicians have played this piano, including Jose Iturbi. The next three concerts will feature world-class pianists playing this Baldwin piano.

Korevaar completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School by age 20. He studied piano with the American virtuoso Earl Wild and composition with David Diamond. Later, he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School.

Wetherbee gave his first performance at age 6. He made his debut with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed throughout the world, including in the Persian Gulf for the men and women of the armed services. Charles is the first violinist of the Carpe Diem String Quartet, one of the most in-demand string quartets on the concert scene. He is also the Artistic Director of the Dercum Center for Arts and Humanities in Keystone. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Aaron Rosand.

Korevaar & Wetherbee perform on Friday night, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Eternal Hills, Tabernash. A dessert reception in the Fellowship Hall follows the concert where the audience can meet the musicians. Adult tickets, $20, are available online at the GCCS website or at the concert. Grand County students are free with their student ID. Adults accompanying Grand County students are $5 each. Tickets for other students are $10.
