Grand County may seem like the ideal place to shoot a ski, snowmobile, or fly fishing movie, but it may come as a surprise that a figure skating movie will be shot here in December.

Maddison Bullock, an actress and filmmaker with ties to Winter Park, will being filming (ice dependent) on December 10, a movie she wrote titled “Ice” in Fraser and Winter Park.

Bullock, 24, has starred in several figure skating movies.

Bullock grew up in Denver, but her family has had a second home in Winter Park for most of her life. Her father worked for the resort as an instructor. Along with skiing, Bullock grew up competitively figure skating, and developed an interest in film making in college at UCLA. She competed nationally and internationally throughout her career and has also coached and taught classes for others.

The idea to film in Grand County was conceived when Bullock laid eyes on the IceBox ice rink where some of the filming will take place. Bullock said she had a picture of the perfect ice surface for the movie and when she saw the IceBox she knew it was the best spot for her film.

Bullock wrote Ice in college where she studied History, but spent a lot of time acting and writing. She started her own filmmaking company, Maddness Pictures, and Ice will be her first feature film through her company.

The filming of Ice will take place at the Icebox and Winter Park Resort for the skating portions. A few local businesses will be included in shots as well including the Winter Park Pub, The Foundry, and the Fraser Valley Rec Center. Bullock said the production is still seeking background actors and businesses that would like some product placement in the movie, or just to help out. She said the people and businesses in Grand County have been very helpful and supportive of her project.

“Ice” is about two figure skaters that are best friends and rivals, and ultimately choose their friendship over their Olympic figure skating dreams. Bullock said the plot is based on her own personal experiences from figure skating and represents personalities that she has experienced in her 20 years as a figure skater.

Bullock said she wants to use as many Colorado actors as she can to make the film as authentic as possible.

She will also be teaching an ice skating clinic at the IceBox on December 18 and all are welcome to join.
