The Town of Hot Sulphur Springs and the Hot Sulphur Days committee announce the 50th annual Hot Sulphur Days event, June 6-8, a three day celebration of hometown fun.

Friday events

The celebration kicks off with the famous street dance on Friday night, featuring the band “Hunker Down.” There will also be a free children’s carnival, a pie-baking contest (see if your pie is a prize winner), an outlaw salsa contest and a silent auction. New this year is a food concession stand with hot dogs, chips and beverages available. Margie’s Mountain Emporium will be open for those who have to have arts and crafts.

Saturday events

Saturday starts off at 8 a.m with the traditional pancake breakfast sponsored by the Hot Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department. The always popular Fireworks Duck Race will return to Hot Sulphur Days as well. Buy a duck and get a chance of winning either $100, $75, or $50. The odds are better than the lottery.

In honor of Hot Sulphur Days, the Grand County Historical Society is granting free admission to its Pioneer Village Museum on Saturday.

History will repeat itself with the Texas Charlie Shootout re-enactment at high noon, followed immediately by the greatest small parade in the county. Businesses, organizations and individuals in Grand County are invited to participate in the parade. There are multiple award categories including a $50 prize for best of show. Details and forms are available online or at town hall.

Amber Flames BBQ will return to serve a smoked meat lunch for the community. The smoked meat will include pulled pork, bratwurst, hot dogs and ribs with sides of ranch-style beans, beverage and dessert.

New this year is BINGO (3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Candy Store, benefiting Heart of the Mountain hospice). At 6 p.m., join the Drum Circle and at 7 p.m., the Thin Ice Band performs at Town Park.

Throughout the day activities will also include kid’s races and games with prizes from Town and Country Insurance, a petting zoo (compliments of Sombrero Stables), and Margie’s Mountain Emporium will again be open with vendors displaying and selling arts and crafts.

Saturday at dusk will be the amazing fireworks display, even bigger and better this 50th anniversary year, paid for by proceeds from the Fireworks Duck Race. Watch from the Town Park while listening to The Thin Ice Band, a local favorite.

Sunday events

Sunday morning starts at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K Fun Race – The Sulphur Suffer — followed by church services in the Town Park with the Hot Sulphur Springs Community Church.

Join in the local tradition of community softball at town park at 1 p.m.
