Middle Park High School hosts concert

A unique concert combining many high school bands and MPHS Choir will be held Wednesday, April 22, at Middle Park High School.

The special event will include four northwest Colorado high school bands combining to perform a concert of exciting music, followed by the MPHS Choir. This is an annual event that rotates among participating schools. The schools represented will be Hayden High School under the direction of Derek Hurshman, South Routt under the direction of Kelli Turnipseed, West Grand under the direction of Dan Bowerly and Middle Park under the direction of Brad Pregeant.

The band music presented will be "Lost Lady Found" by Percy Grainger, "Balladair" by Frank Erickson, "Aztec Fire" by Jay Bocook, "Fanfare for a New Generation" by Dennis Eveland and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl" by Eveland and Klaus Beldt.

The second half of the show will be presented by the Middle Park High School Swing Choir under the direction of Brad Pregeant. The choir will present An Evening of Jazz Vocals. Their show will include J S Bach's "Bourrée" arranged by the Swingle Singers, "Get Happy" by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, "Fly Me to the Moon" by Bart Howard, "Four Brothers" by Jimmy Giuffre and Jon Hendricks, George and Ira Gershwin's "Nice Work if You Can get It" and "Summer Burn" by Sharon Broadwell.

Admission is free, although cash donations or donations of musical instruments are welcomed. Special thanks to our community for supporting these exciting youth music programs in our schools. These enriching music programs not only give youth the gift of music, but also teach them life-long skills that help them pursue their future goals.
