3 inmate deaths spur Larimer County jail review

DENVER (AP) – The death of an inmate is prompting Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith to launch a review of jail procedures.
The sheriff’s office has identified the inmate as 31-year-old Brian Dean Porter of Fort Collins. He collapsed at the jail on Wednesday and died at the hospital.
The results from an autopsy are pending, but authorities say the circumstances don’t appear to be suspicious. Still, the Loveland Reporter-Herald reports three inmates have died in four months and that has the sheriff concerned enough to take a look at jail procedures. Smith said Thursday that authorities have to “stand up and ask questions” even though the deaths appear unrelated and appear to be due to natural causes.
Authorities say Porter was found to be in good health during an exam in March.
