3 new wildfires reported in NW Colo
July 26, 2010
CRAIG, Colo. (AP) – Three new wildfires are burning in northwestern Colorado, including a two-acre fire in Dinosaur National Monument that’s being allowed to burn.
Fire information officer Lynn Barclay says all three wildfires were likely caused by lightning strikes from storms that moved through the area earlier this week. No structures are threatened.
Heavy air tankers were dropping fire retardant on a 100 acre fire, which is burning about 20 miles west of Maybell, while another 50 firefighters battle the fire on the ground.
Meanwhile, a crew of 20 firefighters was searching for a safe route to a quarter-acre wildfire burning on steep terrain about three miles north of Meeker.
That fire is visible from Highway 13.
