Amos Lawrence “Larry” Hunter of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo., passed away Sept. 9, 2009.

He was born April 14, 1945, in Gould, Colo., to Thomas and Ruth (Severns) Hunter. He was a mechanic for the Climax Mine for many years. He married Patricia Maddux on Feb. 14, 1992, in Loveland.

Larry was known for being a storyteller and playing practical jokes on all the kids. He loved children very much and always had sodas and ice cream available for everyone. Larry was an avid horseshoe player, loved riding his bike and climbing the 14’ers, having climbed eight of them.

Larry is survived by his wife Patricia of Hot Sulphur Springs; his son Bruce Hunter of Grand Junction; daughter Jodi Spears and her husband Dennis of Walden; his son Jeremiah and his wife Jamie Berry of Dillon; a brother Tom Hunter and his wife Margie of Durango; a brother Bob Hunter and his wife Mona of Douglas, Wyo.; his sisters Velma Jean Smith and her husband Wayne of Texas and Judy Cook of Douglas, Wyo.; a sister-in-law Susan Hunter of Granby; four grandchildren Megan Hunter, April Hunter, Nathan Hunter-Vanvalkenberg, and Joseph Spears; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerry Hunter; his brothers Jim and Don Hunter; his sisters Lula Love and Shirley Olson.

Funeral services were held Saturday Sept. 12, at Town Park in Hot Sulphur Springs. Interment was at Jackson County Cemetery in Walden.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of Foran-Schoenfeld Mortuary – Hot Sulphur Springs.
