14th annual Adopt-A-Cause campaign selected Shining Stars as the recipient of $2,329

Winter Park, Granby CO – The collective efforts of the employees at Rocky Mountain Eyewear and the three Ski Depot/Breeze Rentals shops in Winter Park and at SilverCreek in Granby blew the doors off their fundraising efforts this year with a huge increase in donations from customers, raising $2,329 compared to $190 last year. This year’s 14th annual Adopt-A-Cause campaign selected Shining Stars as the recipient of their fundraising efforts. Shining Stars is a nonprofit organization with the mission to transform lives through year-round recreational and social programs for children, siblings, and parents challenged with pediatric cancer or another life-threatening disease. Participants experience skiing in the winter and horseback riding at YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch during the summer, as well as a variety of other outdoor adventures.
Making the donation even sweeter for Shining Stars is the matching donation of 50 cents for every dollar raised up to $100 on individual donations from the Vail Resorts Echo program. That additional $1,165 match boosted the total contribution to $3,494.
The Adopt-A-Cause campaign is part of a company-wide effort among the 165 sporting goods stores of Specialty Sports Venture (SSV) based in Broomfield, Colo. Hundreds of employees working in four states (Colorado, California, Utah and Nevada) raised a record-breaking amount this year for the 17 local charities selected by the different regions during the 14th annual Adopt-A-Cause fundraiser. Customers shopping between Thanksgiving weekend and Jan. 8, 2012 donated a grand total of $143,802. A matching contribution of $69,451 was made by Vail Resorts Echo program to benefit the 17 charitable organizations in the communities where the stores operate.
“The Adopt-A-Cause donation helps our organization to continue meeting the ever increasing need for our services from families throughout Colorado,” says Megan Bryant, Director of Development for the Shining Stars Foundation. “Ski Depot and Breeze support of our programs, gives the families we help a new sense of hope, while instilling in the sick child the will to live and fight.”
The team at Ski Depot/Breeze and Rocky Mountain Eyewear is just as committed.
“Our main goal for the Adopt-A-Cause Campaign was to raise $2,500, which is the amount it takes to sponsor a child to participate in Shining Stars activities for a whole year,” said Rachel Rannow, sales and marketing manager for Breeze and Ski Depot Sports. “Because of Breeze at Ski Depot employees’ commitment to that goal, and the generosity of both locals and Fraser Valley guests alike, we were able to reach well above and beyond our goal to help one child with cancer – we also raised enough money to contribute to the Shining Stars Foundation as a whole, and help it thrive as a local nonprofit.”

“Our entire team from front line employees to merchandise buyers and store managers really elevated their efforts this year for our most successful campaigns ever,” said Kat Jobanputra, COO of Specialty Sports Venture, the retail division of Vail Resorts. “A big part of the enthusiasm for Adopt-A-Cause is that the dollars we raise go directly back into the various communities where our employees live, work and play, and we think that is vitally important to our employees and our communities.”
