Benefit event for little Lucy Washburn to be held Dec. 15

When tragedy strikes in small communities like Grand County it is deeply felt, not just by those directly impacted but also by the friends, neighbors and coworkers of those who experience such calamities.

Tragedy recently struck one of the members of the Sky-Hi News team, Cynthia Washburn and her family.

On Sept. 14 Cynthia's three-month-old baby girl Lucy was taken via Flight-for-Life to Children's Hospital with difficulty breathing. For most of the time since Sept. 14 little Lucy has remained under the constant watch of doctors in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children's with ongoing kidney issues.

Lucy was released from Children's Hospital on Nov. 29 but doctors still do not have a definitive answer as to what is making Lucy sick. An update on the family's YouCaring Compassionate Crowdfunding page states, "The Drs believe that Lucy will need to have a kidney transplant sometime in the near future."

A benefit event for little Lucy and the Washburn family is being planned for the evening of Dec. 15. The benefit event is sponsored by Cooper Creek Square and is being held at Smokin Moes in Winter Park. If you get a chance please come out and show your support for the wonderful Washburn family.

Cynthia and her husband Brad are well known in Grand County, especially within the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) community where they both work and volunteer. They are kind and selfless individuals who are struggling through what can only be described as one of the most difficult experiences any person can endure.

We at the Sky-Hi News ask you to keep Lucy and her parents in your thoughts and prayers and to stop by the benefit event next week.

If you feel inclined to help the Washburn family in other ways you can check out the You Caring page set up by one of the Washburn's family friends. You can find it by going to http://www.youcaring.com and searching for "Little Lucy".
