The Grand County Library District (GCLD) Board of Trustees recently created a new committee called Community Partners. The purpose of the Committee is to have dialog with the residents of Grand County about what is happening within GCLD.

The committee's first project was to conduct interviews with 15 stakeholders of the County. These persons included a mother who home schools her children, government officials of the community, several directors of non-profits, school officials, and business representatives. They were each asked the same four questions:

• What is a library (any library) to you?

• What role does our County's Library District play in our community/county?

• Is it effective and why? If no: what needs to change?

• How can the District educate our community on what we do and provide?

The Committee would like to thank those who met with us, giving their time and honest thoughts to the above questions.

Many of the people that we interviewed were also parents and the Children's School Programs were mentioned over and over again as being excellent, so it has been decided to concentrate on other responses.

Many of the responses were the same. These included expanding opportunities for adult education; providing community education on current issues, and assistance with how to use individual technology devices. (This one is already happening with the Granby Library offering individual classes on Tuesday and Thursday between 10 a.m. and Noon by appointment. The most common suggestion was for us to use our local newspapers to communicate with you. We will begin to submit a "Do You Know" column often.
