Lions Club awards MPHS scholarships
June 2, 2016
Continuing the Fraser River Valley Lions Club’s 32-year tradition of providing college scholarships to local, high-performing high school graduates, Bob Boynton, Jancie Hughes and Claudia Diamond of the Fraser River Valley Lions Club handed out seven scholarships totaling $11,500 at Middle Park High School’s annual Awards Night on June 1.
This year’s recipients and the scholarships they received were: Bradley Lutz and Georga Feek ($4,000 scholarships at $1,000 per year for 4 years); Anyssa Cella (1-year, $1,000 Community College scholarship); Sarah McClain (Barbara Nissen Memorial Science/Technology Scholarship for a female student, 1-year, $500); Jesse Sidell (Mary Ann Radkowski Memorial Community Service Scholarship, 1-year, $1,000); and Alyssa Landa and Mallory Milstead (“Recognition of Academic Success” Scholarships, 1-year, $500).
Over more than three decades, the Fraser River Valley Lions Club has awarded scholarships totaling more than $250,000 to local high school graduates. Scholarship winners apply through the Middle Park High School Counseling Office and a Lions Club committee reviews all applications. The Lions Club thanks the school counselors for their assistance in the scholarship process.
“This year’s applicants had very strong academic records along with a host of extracurricular activities and community service hours well in excess of the 40 hours required for graduation from Middle Park High School,” said Bob Boynton, Chair of the Scholarship Committee. “It’s a pleasure to review these applications and so rewarding to provide financial assistance to such impressive students.”
