Aspen seeing similar crowds to last year
November 29, 2009
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) – Aspen resorts say it appears that the Thanksgiving holiday weekend will see crowds on par with last year.
The Aspen Chamber Resort Association says holiday weekend bookings would peak at about 40 percent Saturday night.
Thanksgiving is typically a slower time for tourism in Aspen. Not all terrain in Aspen and Snowmass is open for skiing, and it’s much quieter than the heavy Christmas-to-New Year’s period.
But the resort group says Aspen may not see the pickup it wants in coming weeks.
Three of the next four weeks are tracking behind last year, with projected occupancies of 23, 28, 33 and 49 percent. The latter number represents Christmas week, which last year at the same time was projected to be 53 percent full.
