Candidate running to continue work of current Fraser Rec Board

To the Editor:

I am writing because certain friends and colleagues have expressed confusion over why I am running as a candidate in the upcoming recall election. They have asked: “Kyle, I thought you were in favor of the recreation center, golf course improvements, and general recreation programs. Why are you running in the recreation district election?”

Let me be very clear from the outset. I am strongly opposed to the recall and stridently urge its defeat. I believe that Dan O’Connell, Beth Sands, and Pete Strohecker have done a superlative job representing the interests of district constituents. Somehow, despite an almost constant barrage of unfair accusations made by individuals unburdened by the need for truth, these fine volunteers have managed to guide the recreation center and golf course projects so that they are both on time and on budget. I trust Dan, Beth, and Pete with my tax dollars.

So why, then, am I running? Those of you who have received ballots understand that there are two decisions that need to be made for each recall position on the board.

The first is whether to recall the current board member. The second is to choose a replacement candidate should the recall be successful. I am running so that when voters face this second decision, they have the option of voting for someone who pledges to continue down the fiscally responsible path that has been established by the existing board. Additionally, I am running because the voters deserve the option of someone who is not going to jeopardize the financial integrity of the district by manufacturing a cloud of uncertainty over the tax-free status of the bonds.

There are two other candidates who share these views and seek to maintain the district’s current course. They are Andy Chasin and John Glancey, district residents who appreciate the hard work and dedication of the current board. So in closing, I would like to reiterate the message: “Vote NO on the recall” and ask that in your selection of possible replacement board members, you consider Andy Chasin, John Glancey, and me if you desire representatives who genuinely like the recreation district projects and who ” like Dan, Beth, and Pete ” will work diligently to bring them to fruition.
