Charles Allan FreeCharles Allan Free, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Hot Sulphur Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis following a long bout with cancer.Charles was born May 26, 1937, in Kremmling, Colo., the son of Charles Jr. and Alma (Burris) Free. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1968 and the Wyoming National Guard from 1976-77. Following his service with the Air Force, he was employed as a guard/warehouseman for U.S. Steel at the Iron Ore Mine in Atlantic City from 1968-1983. Upon its closure, he was transferred to Somerset, Colo., from 1983-1986.On Dec. 2, 1974, he married Linda (Collins) Davis in Lander, Wyo. They moved to Thermopolis in 1986 where Charles was janitor at Canyon Hills Manor. From 1989-1999 he was custodian at Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Center until retirement.He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and woodworking. He was Past Master of Malta Lodge #17 AF&AM, past Patron of Vesper Chapter #19 Eastern Star and was a member of the American Legion Walter Haynes Post #18. He was preceded in death by his parents.Charles is survived by Linda his wife of 34 years of Thermopolis; adopted sons Patrick and Jimmy Nation; two brothers James (Lucille) of Grass Valley, Calif., and Bruce (Carol) of Lincoln, Neb., and nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Mortimore Funeral Home with Cal Voigt officiating. Inurnment followed at Monument Hill Cemetery with the VFW Post #2281 and Malta Lodge #17 AF&AM rites.Memorials may be made to the local Vesper Chapter #19 Scholarship Fund, Malta Lodge #17 AF&AM or Big Horn Oncology transportation, 1095 Ninth, Cody, Wyo. 82414.
