Christian School thanks math class helpers
May 20, 2011
The Winter Park Christian School math students would like to thank Tim, Bob, and Dan at Tim Shenk Land Surveyors for allowing us to observe some of the tasks that a surveyor would do on a daily basis, allowing us to see practical applications of math in the real world.
We enjoyed the hands-on experience of using the total station and the GPS. The precision involved in shooting a distance with the gun and the precision of the GPS base and rover gave us a new respect for the work that surveyors do every day.
The mathematics involved in the CADD virtual mapping software is outstanding and was enjoyable to watch in action. Thank you for giving us the chance to get out of the classroom for a morning and an education that the textbook would have never allowed us to have. (And we all loved Bella, the survey dog!)
Thanks once again,
