ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK — The man who died while climbing on Aug. 15 on Longs Peak has been identified as Paul Nahon from Springfield, Mo.

The 20-year-old man fell 150 to his death while climbing Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. The park received the 911 call around 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15.

According to Park officials, the man was climbing The Narrows section of the Key Hole Route on Longs Peak, the only fourteener in the park, which rises 14,259 feet above sea level.

An off-duty park ranger and the man’s climbing partners reached the man, who survived the fall, but later died from “multiple traumatic injuries,” according to Park statements released late afternoon on Thursday.

The press release states ice was present along several locations along the Keyhole Route at the time the accident took place.

Park rangers began efforts to recover the man’s body utilizing a helicopter, but were unable to recover the body due to high winds. Recovery efforts are expected to take place on Friday, Aug. 16, weather permitting, according to the press release.

The man is reported to be from Springfield, Mo., though park officials have not released the man’s name pending notification to family members.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
