DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Department of Public Safety is getting a new executive director.
Gov. Bill Ritter said Friday that Peter Weir will leave as director Saturday to become a senior chief deputy district attorney in Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Weir has headed the department since 2007 and was a judge before that.
Kathy Sasak (say-sak) will take over as director of the Department of Public Safety. She is currently the deputy executive director and is a former deputy district attorney.
The department oversees the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Colorado State Patrol, the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice, the Division of Fire Safety, and the Office of Preparedness and Security.
