Colorado off-highway vehicle trails get $3.1 million grant

DENVER (AP) – Off-highway vehicle trails in Colorado are getting an infusion of $3.1 million, thanks to revenue from the sale of registrations for the vehicles.

The grants from the Colorado State Parks Off-Highway Vehicle Trails Program will be used to plan, build and maintain trails and enforce regulations. The money will also be used for signs, education, habitat restoration, maps of trails and maintenance equipment.

A committee appointed by the state parks board reviewed 41 projects seeking $3.6 million in funding. The grants awarded include 27 projects for trail crews on federal land. Half the grants include funding for law enforcement.
