Colorado State Patrol: Trainee deputy causes 3-car crash

DENVER (AP) – The state patrol says a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy in training caused a three-car accident on C-470 near West Bowles Avenue.

Patrol Sgt. John Hahn says the deputy was making a U-turn across a median Sunday night to respond to a call when he pulled into traffic and was hit by two trucks.

The deputy, a senior officer in the car, and the driver of one of the trucks had minor injuries.

Hahn says the training deputy will face careless driving charges. His name wasn’t released.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says the department would review the patrol’s investigation before making any decisions about the deputy.
