Community garden plots available in Kremmling
March 5, 2009
Grand Community Gardens is taking signups for the Kremmling Community Gardens site starting immediately.
The Kremmling site is located at the Fairgrounds. Residents may rent a space for the 2009 season for $60. This includes a $20 refundable deposit. Interested persons should call Bonnie Koblitz at (970) 724-3377 to get information or to sign up for a space. The spaces are raised beds with soil already in them. Water is provided by Grand County. All you need to do is buy your seed, any soil amendments and plant as soon as weather permits.
Last year was the first year for the Community Gardens. The Kremmling site had 15 participants. There are some gardeners from last year who will be returning to their space again this year. Most gardeners had great success raising mostly vegetables, such as broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, onions, kohlrabi and peas, just to mention a few. Flower gardeners are also encouraged to participate.
Any agency or organization can sponsor a space for an individual. The cost is the same, $60 per space for the season. The deposit will be returned at the end of the season when the bed is cleaned out and made ready for next year.
Raising your own food is a skill that comes in handy these days. Even if you have no experience gardening, that’s not a problem. Classes will be offered on various aspects of gardening from composting to seed planting and harvesting. If you are interested, please call Bonnie at (970) 724-3377.
