Convicted sex offenders arrested in statewide Colorado roundup

DENVER (AP) – Authorities are in the final days of a statewide roundup to arrest convicted sex offenders who have failed to register their residences as required by law.

Police officers with the federal, state and local agencies have checked on 1,841 convicted sex offenders in the past several weeks, arresting at least 64 who were suspected of violating the law.

Sex offenders are required by law to register their addresses with law enforcement agencies, which then can post those listings on the Internet to notify the public.

About 10,000 Colorado convicted sex offenders are registered, and some 700 are wanted for failing to register and violating the terms of parole. officials said.

The multi-agency roundup, which is in its third year, is scheduled to end Sunday afternoon.
