HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS — Grand County Commissioners are giving construction projects a financial break by reducing fees.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, several construction projects requiring planning and zoning permits will be reduced by as much as half, and plan change fees and inspections have been dropped entirely. Commissioners felt the fees collected for excessive for the amount of work they required county employees to do, according to county manager Lurline Underbrink-Curran. Planning directory Chris Manguso said she’s has already worked to streamline her department, and greeted the commissioners’ decision favorably.

The 2014 Planning and Zoning review fees will be reduced as follows:

Single family dwellings — reduced from $50 to $25.

Decks, outbuildings, additions and boathouses/docks — reduced from $20 to $10.

Signs — reduced from $50 to $25.

Plan change fees and Planning and Zoning inspection — fees removed.

The changes only apply to unincorporated Grand County.
