August 20, 2009
The Grand Lake Fire Department, Stillwater Community Chapel, and The Grand Lake Rotary Club are teaming up to host an “Old Fashioned Family Picnic and Street Dance” in the Grand Lake town park from 3:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 22.
Armour Gomez of Show Low, Ariz., will play old-time rock, country and easy-listening classics for entertainment and dancing at the pavilion in the park. Admission is free, and barbecue dinner platters and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
Family-friendly competition and games are set to take place during the early-evening event, including a watermelon seed spitting contest and a dance contest for which prizes will be awarded for the “Best Dressed to Represent the 1960s!” Saturday evening Bingo sponsored by the Grand Lake Chamber begins at 7:30 p.m. in the pavilion.
Armour also will be at the Sunday, Aug. 23 Morning Worship Service of the Stillwater Community Chapel to share his personal story of recovery from a life of drug and alcohol abuse on the strip in Las Vegas where he played the clubs for over 17 years.
