DENVER, Colorado – Colorado will keep posting signs alongside construction projects paid for with federal stimulus dollars.

Democratic lawmakers voted to reject the Republican proposal Thursday after a hearing in the a House committee.

The state has spent as much as $247,000 in stimulus money to post the signs along about 100 construction sites letting drivers know the work is being paid for with stimulus money. The signs also bear the name of Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter.

The bill from Rep. David Balmer would have barred the state from buying new signs or even reusing old signs at projects.

He said he wanted to save taxpayer dollars, but Democratic Rep. Joe Miklosi said taxpayers should know where there stimulus money is being spent.
