Dentists spread smiles across Grand County
February 17, 2009
To the Editor:
We would like to thank Granby Dental Clinic for participating in the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Give Kids a Smile Day.
Each year on the first Friday of February, dentists throughout the nation offer free dental services to low-income, uninsured children. This year, Granby Dental Clinic donated the entire day on Friday, Feb. 6, to improving our local children’s oral health. They served 29 children that day and provided an immeasurable amount of support to the families they served.
Oral health disease is the number one infectious disease among children. Children miss sleep and school due to untreated dental disease. They can’t eat, and therefore can’t concentrate in school. In short, children with untreated dental disease fail to thrive.
Mobile dental vans come to Grand County several times throughout the summer to assist with preventative dental care. Give Kids a Smile day helped many children receive fillings, extractions and other needed restorative care. Thank you, Granby Dental.
