Denver ex-fire chief heads Colorado homeland security

DENVER (AP) – Gov. Bill Ritter has appointed former Denver Fire Department Chief Larry Trujillo to replace retiring Colorado Homeland Security Director Mason Whitney.
Whitney led Colorado’s homeland security initiatives since August 2007, first as a coordinator and then as the first director of the new Office of Homeland Security in April 2008.
He was adjutant general of the Colorado National Guard from 2000 to 2007.
Trujillo served as Denver fire chief from 2003 until retiring in 2007.
