Dumping trash in forests can bring a heavy fine
June 22, 2010
Forest visitors and people in communities near National Forest system lands need to remember that it is illegal to dispose of trash and garbage in the National Forest.
Even though there is a new transfer station in Granby, with the closure of the Grand County Landfill, Forest Service managers are concerned that people will use nearby National Forest lands to get rid of their refuse.
It is everyone’s responsibility to dispose of refuse in a responsible way.
People caught dumping trash and garbage on the National Forest can be fined up to $5,000 and spend up to six months in prison.
If you have questions about using the transfer station or need the location, call Waste Connections Inc. at (970) 627-8531, or visit their website at http://www.the-trash-company.com.
