Emails show Colorado assessor took sports tickets

DENVER (AP) – A suburban Denver assessor who lowered the values of a campaign donor’s properties accepted tickets to Colorado Avalanche and Rockies games from the company’s vice president.

Emails obtained by The Denver Post also show that the executive for California-based Majestic Realty thanked Adams County assessor Gil Reyes for “championing” a tax refund it got on two of its buildings. The refund was worth over $200,000 a year.

The newspaper previously reported on the property tax reductions for Majestic and other donors to Reyes’ election campaigns. The state is investigating those assessments.

Reyes said he thinks the investigation will back the values he set for Majestic properties but that he recognizes that some of his communications with the company were “inappropriate.” Reyes said he regrets “any implication they may have” on his office’s integrity.
