‘Visions of Grand County’ quilt exhibit opens July 5 at Cozens Ranch Museum
July 5, 2013
FRASER— A quilt exhibit opens on July 5 at Cozens Ranch Museum in Fraser, and runs through August 11. The exhibition features over 75 quilts from heirloom collectibles to contemporary expressions on display throughout the 12 rooms of the museum. Themes for the quilt exhibition include heritage quilts, patriotic quilts, red and white quilts, baby and children's quilts, and Visions of Grand County.
A special section presents modern interpretations of the nature and beauty of Grand County, called Visions of Grand County. Visions of Grand County is inspired by the Grand Quilters' annual group show that hangs in the Colorado State Capitol. This year the Grand Quilters chose to display their new and exciting works in the Changing Exhibit Room at Cozens Ranch Museum. Visions of Grand County is a stunning exhibit of contemporary quilts in bold colors, imaginative themes, and varied sizes and techniques.
The Grand Quilters are a group of emerging to expert women artists who stitch their love and lives into their craft. The Grand Quilters sew their quilts for family, friends, charity and for local fundraisers, but do not sell them. The heart and passion of the quilter is palpable in each quilt, antique and modern. A few quilts represent the 'quilting bee' aspect of quilt-making. One such group effort is their quilt made to raise funds for the Fraser Valley Library, and it will be on display.
A few members still meticulously hand sew their quilts using traditional methods, while most use specialized sewing machines to stitch together colorful pieces of fabric. This year, the Grand Quilters present their quilts at Cozens Ranch Museum for a five-week long exhibit. Among the Grand Quilters showing their work and/ or personal collections at Cozens Ranch Museum are: Louise Atteridg, Betsy deVries, Diane Fisher, Gracie Hammond, Marianne Hogan, Carol Kitts, Jocille Quick, Kay Rhoads, Sally Schuyler, Lori Scott, Joan Shaw, Marcia Walker, Sally Hicks, Debbie Wehmeyer, Barbara Williams, Helen Williams, and Suanne Yarbrough.
