Fatal accident on U.S. Highway 134
July 1, 2010
Karl Wurtz, 48, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene 13 miles northwest of Kremmling on Highway 134 after a one-car accident on Monday, June 28.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, Wurtz was traveling east at about 2 a.m. when his 1997 Chevrolet 2500 cargo van left the right edge of the road, crossed a field access road, began rotating counter-clockwise, and rolled twice before coming to rest on its wheels.
Wurtz was wearing his seat belt, but the van was not equipped with air bags. A State Patrol statement said alcohol is not suspected as a contributing factor, though speed is being investigating as a possible component of the accident.
Officials from the Colorado Department of Transportation, Grand County EMS, Kremmling Fire, and the Grand County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
