Gore Ridge Fire sparks evacuation orders

A serious wildland broke out in Grand County Tuesday afternoon Sept. 13. The fire was burning in the Gorewood Estates housing subdivision, located several miles west of Kremmling on County Road 14 South, near the entrance to the Grand River Ranch Tuesday afternoon at press time.
Local firefighters from Grand County were in the thick of battling the blaze Tuesday afternoon as fire officials reached out to the Craig Interagency Dispatch Center requesting aerial suppression resources. The Grand County Sheriff’s Dept. was also hurriedly working Tuesday with a large contingent of deputies on scene going door to door assisting with evacuation efforts.
The fire was initially burning on county land but spread into the nearby subdivision. The fire also threatened structures, those no structure damage or injuries were reported as of press time. Mountain Parks Electric shut off power to the subdivision and a Code Red notification has been issued.
According to County officials the fire was the result of a slash pile burn that expanded into a wildfire. The fire was still active as of press time. This story will be updated as more information becomes available .
