Forest Service slash-burning continues near Winter Park, Grand Lake

On Thursday, Dec. 1, U.S. Forest Service fire crews will continue burning slash piles on Vasquez Ridge about two miles west of Winter Park/Fraser in the Vasquez Ridge/West Elk Creek area.

This area contains approximately 4,000 piles on 228 acres, remaining from recent mountain pine beetle mitigation projects.

Burning will also continue on South Supply about four miles northwest of Grand Lake near the information board on South/North Supply Roads. This project contains approximately 840 piles on 24 acres.

Pile burning elsewhere around the Sulphur Ranger District will continue through December as conditions allow. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing, and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
