Help support the Fraser River and have fun doing it during the “Fraser River Days” celebration today and Saturday in Fraser and Winter Park.

This second annual event features a live lumberjack show, free music concerts with Carolyn Wonderland and REL-I, fly-fishing lessons and casting contests, and live birds of prey from the Raptor Education Foundation.

“Fraser River Days is really about celebrating how this river ties both the towns of Fraser and Winter Park together,” said Catherine Ross, executive director of the Winter Park-Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce. “The weekend will be filled with fun activities, learning opportunities and great entertainment.”

One of the not-to-be-missed events is Saturday’s dedication of the statue of President “Ike” Eisenhower at the Lions Ponds in Fraser.

“We will also have Native American dancing and story-telling both Saturday and Sunday,” said Maria Chavez, the chamber’s membership services director and official team leader for Fraser River Days. “The Native American performances have an energy that will add a spiritual and historical context to this celebration.”

One of the fun and educational displays during this weekend’s celebration will be the Colorado Division of Wildlife’s giant fish tank where the public can view live trout. Ross said the tank give the public the opportunity to “get up close and personal with a trout.”

“Another cool thing is Mountain Row Tech will be here giving rowing demonstrations with donations going to the MS Foundation,” Chavez said. “We’ll also be holding a silent auction with hiking and camping gear with the proceeds going to the Fraser River Enhancement Project.”
