Genevieve DesJardins of Grand Lake dies

Genevieve DesJardins

1922-2011

Genevieve DesJardins, 89, of Grand Lake, passed away on Sept. 27, 2011. Genevieve was born May 6, 1922, in Anaconda, Mont, where she was also raised. She acquired her love of nature and the outdoors there. She believed in trying to make the world a better place. She volunteered and contributed all her life to causes she thought could do just that.

Professionally she was an accountant in her younger years. She married Edward Dolan of Anaconda and raised seven children. When her youngest was five, she returned to college, graduated summa cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

In the late 1980s, Genevieve moved to Winter Park. She was hired by Winter Park Ski School and for 10 years ” had the best job ever.” Many in Grand County know her from hiking the trails of Rocky Mountain National Park. She could be seen there all seasons enjoying the beauty. Being there fed her spirit.

Genevieve was a fiercely independent, creative woman. She was an avid reader. She loved the arts, a good turkey sandwich, chocolate, but mostly her family. She will be greatly missed. We loved her so.

Per Genevieve’s request there will be no formal service held. Suggested charitable donations if desired: Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre; The Colorado Symphony; U.S. Olympic Committee; National Women’s History Museum; The Continental Divide Trail/ Sierra Club.
