Granby businesses mount last-minute push to win Reusable Bag Challenge

Businesses in the town of Granby have gathered to help Grand County win the Reusable Bag Challenge issued by the Colorado Association of Ski Towns (CAST) to 31 mountain towns.

The winner will receive a $10,000 solar panel installation on a public school. Grand County is in third place in the challenge, which ends Sept. 1.

Granby businesses are cooperating on Saturday, Aug. 29, to help push Grand County into first place by having a Bring Your Own Bag Sale. Participating businesses will offer discounts of 10 percent or better at their store if you bring your own reusable bag. They are asking consumers to shop Saturday in Granby not only to win the solar panel, but also to begin a new lifestyle of using reusable bags instead of plastic. Reusable bags will also be available at several area businesses.

The “winner” of the challenge will be determined by which community uses the most reusable bags on a per-capita basis.

Participating businesses are listed at http://www.granbychamber.com or look for the Bring Your Own Bag Sale sign in their windows.
