February 2, 2009
The East Grand School District received official notice last week of its advancement to become (IB) International Baccalaureate World Schools.
The Primary Years Program (PYP) for grades K-5 received notice of a successful application for the (candidate phase) of IB implementation for Grand Lake Elementary, Granby Elementary and Fraser Valley Elementary schools.
East Grand Middle School and Middle Park High School received notice of a successful application for the authorization phase of the Middle Years Program (MYP) grades 6-10.
The next step to becoming authorized to offer the MYP program is an official site visit by a team of IB officials set for fall 2009. The team will visit with parents, teachers and students to evaluate curriculum planning, unit planning, and collaborative structures in place to ensure the implementation of the MYP program.
The site visit team makes a recommendation whether to authorize East Grand Middle School and Middle Park High School as IBO World Schools.
The framework of the (IB) International Baccalaureate program requires schools and teachers to work as teams to reflect on, develop, organize and deliver the curriculum with close attention to the perspectives of the students.
