Grand County couples sing their hearts out for Pucker Up benefit

As people pucker up for Valentines Day, the Grand County Center 4 Excellence is helping them get in the mood with a dinner and show benefit the night before.Two sets of musicians (Andy and Kay Irvine and 3rd Time Luckys Mickey Sandora and Trish Leone) will stage free performances for the fun party. The couples will play together, followed by alternate sets of their favorite love songs, and round out with a performance back together. Were gonna get into all that love music, Andy Irvine said, adding that he and Kay will play all the classics from bands like The Four Tops and Luther Vandross, as well as more modern bands like REO Speedwagon. Leone said she and Mickey will be playing mostly band originals, including Im In, and possibly a fresh piece shes been finalizing called Im Not Gonna Save It For Later.The Couple of Pairs Pucker Up party is also hoping to include an opening performance by singer Jessica Jones, famous for her fired-up rendition of Mojo Workin, who is working out the details to man a Kissing Booth for a short period following the song. Other Kissing Booth participants are also being organized, with proceeds to go to the center.A Puppy Love photo contest is the major fundraiser for the center, as well as $1 from each dinner entre sold on Feb. 13 and 14. For the photo contest, participants are encouraged to bring in photos of their favorite furred best friends for a chance at prizes.Judges include party host Mike Turner, producer at WP-TV18; Grand Lake Elementary Principal Phyliss Price, and a representative from the Sky-Hi Daily News. Cutest dog wins a 3-foot hand-crafted, braided hemp leash with glass beadwork by Winter Park Glass. Meals include regular menu items, as well as an eight-ounce ($18), 12 oz. ($27) and 16-ounce ($30) prime rib dinner; chicken fettuccini Alfredo ($18), and pork chops ($18). Drinks are not included.GCC4E director Larry Norman, who will also be providing musical entertainment as DJ Normski throughout the rest of the evening, said the party is a nice way to just relax with all the crazy stuff going on in the world right now. He also points out that the party is a rare opportunity to see the four married headline musicians play together. There may also be a special performance by DJ Winter Freeze Gray.The Grand County Center 4 Excellence was designed to assist schools, school districts and other learning environments with training, programming and instruction formats that help them create their own distinct form of alternative-, gifted and talented-, and International Baccalaureate-based programming.Funds raised will go toward a scholarship program offered to East Grand School District students who cant afford to attend classes at the Grand County Center 4 Excellence.
