Grand County Libraries offer full calendar for June

Your library in Grand County is preparing for a summer full of reading, special events, children’s entertainment and films. Read some of the special events for June below.

Fraser Valley Library

Wetlands: Between Land and Water – Join Paul McIver of the Ecosystems Protection Program and learn the functions and values of wetlands. Adults and children are welcome to join this fun and interactive program. Refreshments will be provided. Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. in the Urban Community Room.

Summer Reading Program – Sign up by June 15 and enjoy a summer of free fun and prizes! Contact Joy McCoy at 726-5689 about the free Summer Reading Program for all ages.

Movie Night – Join us for our monthly movie night with Charlie Agar, who will lead a film discussion afterwards. Stay tuned for more details. Thursday, June 18, at 6 p.m. in the Urban Community Meeting Room.

Socrates Cafe – Come and join this laid-back philosophical discussion group, which explores a different question every time. Facilitated by Jon Wulff, this meeting is free and open to the public.

Thursday Computer Class – Learn the basics of the internet, Word, and e-mail in this informal small-group session. Class size is limited. Call 887-2149 for reservations. Thursday, June 25, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Juniper Library

Children’s Guitar Lessons – Free lessons sponsored by The Grand County Blues Society. Please sign up at the Youth Services desk to reserve a spot! Thursday, June 4, at 5 p.m.

B. Looney the Clown – will come to the Grand Lake Elementary for a preview to “Summer Reading Fun” Thursday, June 11, at noon.

Young Adult Gardening – For teens entering sixth grade and up. We will plant vegetables and flowers around the library. Starting Tuesday, June 9, at 3 p.m.

Movie Night – “Twilight” (PG-13) Popcorn is provided, so bring a beverage and a friend! Tuesday, June 23, at 6 p.m.

Toddler Story Time – Beginning June 2 Toddler Story Time will be on Tuesdays! We will make music with rhythm sticks, play with a big parachute, and will enjoy stories outside! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
