Grand County opened hearts, wallets for After Prom

To the Editor:On Saturday, April 18, Middle Park High School held its Junior – Senior Prom. In September, a small group of juniors started planning the Prom. In November, a small group of junior parents (mostly moms) started planning the After Prom. According to Diane Bond (MPHS librarian and MOM to five MPHS alumna), junior parents planned the first After Prom in the mid-1990s to give our kids a safe, fun alternative activity for when the Prom ended at midnight. Each year since then, a different group of parents, knowing how important this is, has continued the event. Over the years, Grand County businesses, communities, individuals, and parents have generously supported the After Prom. Even this winter, in this economy, the After Prom committee raised over $7,000, and we would like to recognize and say thank you to everyone who supported the 2009 After Prom. Cash Donations came from: R & J Liquors, Grand Lake Log Homes, Town of Grand Lake, Fraser Valley Lions Club, Big Valley Construction, Winter Park Ski Area & Resort, Four Mile Farms, East Grand Fire Protection District #4, Abbott’s Pump Company, McDonough & Sons Excavating, Winter Park Travel, Harold Teverbaugh, Rotary Club of Granby, Bruce & Patricia Byrd, Topaz Professionals, Inc., Remington’s of Granby, Inc., Ron & Cindy Stern, Cooper Creek LLC, Grand Mountain Bank, Winter Park & Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce, Grand Lake Plumbing, Drowsy Water Ranch, State Farm Insurance – Kurt Neibauer, Spirits & Things, Rotary Club of Grand Lake, Circle D Foods of Grand Lake, Legacy Building Products, Bottom Line Bookkeeping, Mountain Park Concrete, Middle Park Glass, Parts & Equipment, Inc., Pat Rupert, Jim Glenn – Glenn Realty, Grand County Auto Parts.
