Grand Lake is regional winner in Ultimate Fishing Town contest
June 14, 2013
GRAND LAKE – Grand Lake has been named the Ultimate Fishing Town of the Southwest region by the World Fishing Network and will receive $3,500 community donation with the goal of bolstering fishing-related causes.
As many as 700 towns in the U.S. and Canada received nominations and were eligible to advance in the quest to become the next Ultimate Fishing Town. Participants were asked to nominate where he or she believes is the best place to fish. Town walls were then populated with videos, photos and written comments to promote the community's candidacy and reinforce why the town is deserving of Ultimate Fishing Town honors.
Point Colborne, Ontario and Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, N.Y. were each named the ultimate fishing towns by the WFN and will be awarded $25,000.
The Town of Grand Lake has not decided what they will use the money for yet, though a community committee will be formed in order to see how the money can be best used to bolster fishing resources for the town, according to Samantha Miller, marketing and tourism director for the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
