Grand Lake Theatre: Tweens take audience back to the 50s

Put on your poodle skirts and sock hop over to Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatres Youth Theatre Production and back to the 1950s to Miss Goody Two-Shoe’s record store as local youth, ages 11 to 13 light up the stage this weekend to perform a new play called Hound Dog Marty’s Rock & Roll Party.This years production is written by RMRT’s Resident Costume Designer Jesus Perez, who said he wanted to have a play where the kids could be a part of a different place and time besides their own to be the same age (or so) but a different era the music, the rules, the clothes, the idioms and the friendships.Emily Kish, director of this workshop, said its been a joy working with the tweens of Grand County and that she expects the show to be fantastic. The show is full of high energy and young hearted, perfect for this age group, she said.The workshops 43 participants have been rehearsing the show for three weeks with professional instructors teaching them audition technique, stage blocking and performance style. This year’s YTP is showing off the highest number of kids we’ve seen, said Sally Scott, RMRT program administrator. Get ready to see the stage filled to the brim with poodle-skirts twisting the night away.Participants in RMRT’s Youth Theatre Production this year include: Bo Alexander, Jessica Allen, Austin Beaven, Carlie Bugos, Kaitlynd Burmaster, Madeline Castellion, Ansley Colbeck, Lindsey Delphia, Bryce Desmaris, Ella Durbin, Issac Elliot, Georga Feek, Adam Freeman, Allison Freeman, Tori Gruber, Callie Hale, Darby Hartmann, Maddi Hauck, Evan Hoffmann, Jessica Kemp, Mark Knight, Abigail Little, Kaylene Loo, Kaya Love, Amelia Matteson, Chloe McManigal, Chelsea McManigal, Logan Miller, Ben Morgan, Erin O’Conner, Haley Olson, Madison Polansky, Jafei Pollitt, Cody Ray, Hallee Ray, Lauren Rimmer, Hanna Rupp, Erika Taylor, Alyssa Turner, Allen Waters-Nutter, Graham Webb, Madison Welch, Kendra Witt.Lead by Scott, now in her second year as administrator, the Youth Theatre workshops are staffed by members of the 2008 Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre Company. Kish returns to Grand Lake for the fourth year as Youth Theatre staff and the second year as director of the YTP.
