Home repair company owner ordered to pay $6.5 million

DENVER (AP) – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers says a roofing company has to pay about $6.5 million in restitution and civil penalties for charging homeowners for work that wasn’t done.
Suthers said Thursday the order after a trial in Denver District Court also bars 41-year-old Glenn Jessen from owning or operating any home-repair business that engages in door-to-door sales.
Jessen was the president of the now-closed Claim Specialists International Inc. and is involved with another company. Jessen didn’t return a call from The Associated Press Thursday.
Suthers says Jessen’s company targeted Denver and Colorado Springs homeowners. A complaint says the company never completed the work in nearly 500 cases. Others in the company settled with the state last year and agreed to pay restitution and stop working in the roofing industry.
