Hot Sulphur Springs – Voters chose to keep Hershal Deputy as mayor in a recall election on Tuesday, June 19.

In a voter turnout of 63 percent of the electorate – a higher turnout than in the April election – Deputy garnered 146 “no” votes to the question: “Shall Hershal Deputy be recalled from office of mayor?”

As many as 81 votes were in favor of recalling Deputy.

Deputy now is in the position to retain his mayoral seat at least until his term is up in 2014.

Efforts to reach Deputy for comment on the election results were unsuccessful Tuesday night since Deputy was out of the state the day of the election.
