Independent Sports Club raises funds
January 8, 2010
The results are in. The Independent Sports Club (ISC) raised more than $5,000 at its annual gala at Caroline’s Cuisine in Grand Lake during the Thanksgiving weekend. The event was sponsored by the Grand Mountain Bank.
These funds are dedicated to the ISC Scholarship Fund. The club awards three scholarships to graduating seniors from Grand County – one from each of the high schools and one at large. The amount of the scholarships depends on the success of the ISC’s fund raising events throughout the year.
Around the third week of June, the club conducts its Invitational Golf Tournament, which generally raises at least one-third of the ISC annual budget. In late July, the club holds a two-three day yard sale in Grand Lake Village, chaired by Merry Coullon. Last year’s event raised about $5,000.
These proceeds support the scholarship fund, as well as provide funds for social, sport or educational projects for individual Grand County youth, who apply for assistance and reciprocate by helping at future fundraising events.
The ISC is looking for new members interested in maintaining and increasing support for Grand County youth. Membership is $10 per year or $100 for lifetime. Meetings are held on an ad hoc basis, but generally once a month to make awards and plan events.
The club is looking for new ideas and welcomes members from throughout the county. Contact Karen Raymond at (970) 627-9395 or Marian Laster at (703) 307-0610.
