Indian Peaks principal fired
January 28, 2010
Indian Peaks Principal Stephanie Beckler was terminated during a special Indian Peaks board meeting on Wednesday.
The Indian Peaks Charter School Board voted to grant medical leave to Beckler days prior to its decision to terminate her, according to Beckler, who was reached on Thursday.
Beckler said she then learned of the board’s pending direction upon reading a notice that was posted at the school, stating that her termination would be under consideration during a special meeting called for that Wednesday.
Beckler then learned from the board’s secretary that the board’s decision stemmed from “budgetary” reasons, she said.
“I’m personally and professionally harmed,” Beckler said about the surprise manner in which she lost her position.
“I haven’t decided what to do at this point.”

Beckler was hired last spring.
Indian Peaks Charter School board members declined comment on any details of the layoff or budgetary concerns at the school.
In prepared statements released by the board on Thursday, Indian Peaks officials said “a recent change has been made to the staff of Indian Peaks Charter School – IPCS no longer has a principal.
“This change in no way affects the active participation of the board members and educational team in the day-to-day function of our school,” the release continues.
“Programs, activities and clubs are continuing to run smoothly, providing the usual energetic and fun atmosphere that our families have come to expect from our school. The board and educational team will finish the school year strong and we look forward to next year.”
