Interstate 70 project continues into summer

SUMMIT DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

SUMMIT COUNTY – Construction on Interstate 70 between Frisco and Vail resumed Tuesday including concrete sealing, in-lay striping and minor bridge improvements as part of a federal stimulus project, according to a press release from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Single-lane closures may occur on east- and westbound traffic between the towns Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is to be in effect during those times.

“Only minor delays are anticipated during project hours, but CDOT will monitor traffic and adjust and/or remove lane closures if long backups develop,” according to the press release.

The project was suspended in November 2009 because of adverse weather. It is scheduled to be complete in July 2010.

Weekly lane closure information is available at http://www.dot.state.co.us/TravelInfo/currentcond.

The $11.5 million project received $8 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
