Investigators renew search for missing Grand Junction woman
May 5, 2011
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) – Grand Junction investigators having been searching fields in parcels of land in search of clues in a missing woman case but they won’t say why.
The Daily Sentinel reported Thursday that recent developments in the investigation of missing mother Paige Birgfeld prompted volunteers and representatives from the Mesa County Coroner’s Office to search fields they had already covered years ago.
The ground they were covering is just north of where Birgfeld’s burned-out car was found burning in July 2007. An unloaded gun was found not far from the vehicle. She had last been seen June 28, 2007.
Representatives from the sheriff’s department say they intend to search the area again. They declined to specify what they were looking for.
Relatives of Birgfeld say they’re “encouraged” by the renewed investigation.
