November 19, 2009
To the Editor:On Saturday, Nov.14, Devil’s Thumb Ranch House Restaurant hosted a five-course dinner to benefit the Grand Foundation. With 71 guests, this event raised $40,000 for charity. With a beautiful, blanket of fresh snow, the evening started with a cocktail party, passed hors d’oeuvres and silent auction. A five course dinner followed with Paul Dolan Vineyards and The Mendocino Wine Company pairing fine wines to each of Ranch House Chef Ken Ohlinger’s savory creations. Throughout the evening the conversation continued to generate excitement leading into the live auction, which spiced up the event with eager bidding on a gourmet dinner for 12 with Chef Ohlinger at the Devil’s Thumb John L’s Wine Cellar, a Quang Ho framed original oil and a Karen Vance original “A Winter’s Hike”.
