Elk Horn Gallery closing and ski season thanks
With the close of another banner ski season I would like to express my appreciation to all of the line workers and retailers of the ski resort and the Winter Park/Fraser communities. Trip after trip I have been treated with courtesy and friendliness and, of course, this combined with great skiing keeps me coming back. This season brought one element of sadness for me with the announcement of the closing of Elk Horn Gallery which I have been a frequent visitor of since the early '90s. Tom and Gary have been great ambassadors for the Fraser Valley through the years and I have always looked forward to entering their gallery. Elk Horn Gallery always offered a great range of art, knowledgable service and down home hospitality. I have great respect for Tom as he was deeply committed to his artists, his customer base and his country. I also would like to thank Tom for his service to his country as in his prior career he was known as Colonel Coblentz. For now a serious void will be created in the cultural community and hopefully someone will open a new gallery that will serve vistors and locals with the same enthusiasm that the owners of Elk Horn extended for decades. Every time I walk through my home in Iowa I will think of my many visits to Winter Park as the art work hanging on the walls represents not just art but fond memories as well. Thank you to Tom, Virgina and Gary Coblentz for making visits to the Fraser Valley a little more special.
