Medicare counseling available for Grand County seniors

Grand County Council on Aging is now offering Medicare/SHIP counseling to residents of Grand County. The Colorado Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a counseling program for Medicare beneficiaries and their families/caregivers who wish assistance in understanding Medicare benefits, coverage gaps, billing concerns, Medigap, Medicare HMO’s, long term care insurance, and other health insurance options.

All services are provided without charge by trained counselors who donate their time and experience. Counselors will assist consumers with information to make informed insurance choices. SHIP volunteers can: Help people with Medicare; assist with private health insurance claims; identify gaps in Medicare coverage and options to fill them; identify Medicare Prescription Drug Plans and assist with enrollment; evaluate Medicare supplement insurance options; file Medicare appeals; help understand hospital bills and Medicare rights; and provide reference information and referral sources.

If you have any questions regarding your Medicare coverage, please call the GCCA office at (970) 887-3222. They will schedule an office appointment or a phone interview.
